Sometimes we hold onto anger because we mistakenly believe it will save us.
Someone I love very much has struggled for years with some serious anger.
The problem was that her anger was totally appropriate, because someone else did things to her that were totally unacceptable. So for her, anger was the right thing to feel every time she remembered those difficult events.
But even though those events have long since passed, her anger is still right at the surface.
And that happened because she believed that the only way she'd ever truly heal, was for the person who hurt her to experience an equal level of pain.
So she held on to her anger, believing that it would save her, all the while it was eating her up inside, and causing problems in her body.
